The members of the club are said to be split up into cliques; at any rate, staid formality and an absence of sociability are usually characteristic of the affairs given by the club. That form of card-playing known as "poker" is only permitted on New Year's Eve; at other times throughout the year less venturesome games of chance are indulged in. Nevertheless, the Harmonie is a delightfully social organization for the older ones in New York Jewry, and while it may not offer much in the "strenuous line" to young persons, it is a club of which many are glad to be members.
