When Mr. Israel Levinthal left Woodbine on September 5, all the members of the C. Z. S., and representatives of the B'nos Zion, awaited him at the depot and gave him a royal and cheerful send off. Although away from Woodbine, Mr. Levinthal still guides the societies, corresponds with them and offers them aid.

The Degel Zion Society celebrated the Sabbath Nachmu on Sunday, August 13th. Addresses were delivered by M. L. Hoffman secretary and Mr. M. Altshuler. About fifty members left after the festival for Sharon, Pa., to participate in the Siyum Hatorah of the Tifereth Zion Society of Sharon. About $140 were collected on that occasion. At the same meeting the Degel Zion Society also resolved to donate a Scroll of the Law to the Zion Institute. The following committees have been appointed: Press and Maccabaean Committee: Mr. I. The Sisters of Zion have arranged for the holding of a series of affairs in order to realize funds for the purpose of establishing a Zionist library. The first affair, held on Nov. 1st, was a raffle, which was very well attended and proved to be a financial success. An address was delivered by the Rev. Dr. Benmoshe.
Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Zion Guard of Chattanooga, Tenn., has applied for a certificate of affiliation with the Federation. The Zerubbabel Society of Jersey City, N. J., with about sixty members, decided at its meeting on Oct. 29th, to apply for a certificate of affiliation with the Federation. The Society Zerubbabel was formed about seven months ago with a membership of fifteen.
Russia in Revolt.—Jews Attacked.
At Kishineff the disturbances were preceded by inflammatory speeches, gendarmes and city officials near the Governor's house asserting that the Jews had attempted to take the life of the local Bishop, and intended to loot the Treasury. The mob, thus incited, started the bloody work. Carrying ikons and portraits of the Emperor, the mob proceeded to Alexandrovskaia, Pushkinskaia, Gostinkaia Streets, devastating and pillaging unhindered. Attempts at self-defense were quelled by the troops. Ninety per cent. of the killed and wounded were victims of bayonets and rifle bullets. The looting was accompanied by atrocities similar to those witnessed at Odessa. They continued for two days.
and stopped as soon as the Governor received an order from St. Petersburg. Seventy Jews were killed and 120 wounded.
The Odessa City Council has taken measures looking to the investigation of the massacres. The Council has declared its intention of prosecuting those responsible for the massacres and has appropriated $25,000 for that purpose.
Outward calm has returned, but the tension is still great. Reports that the Jews are preparing for terrible vengeance on the Christians are being industriously circulated among the lowest and most ignorant classes, and it is feared that they may lead to a recrudescence of anarchy.
