HERZL ZION CLUB.
This Club was organized four years ago with the purpose of spreading the Zionist ideal and the Hebrew language among the Jewish youth of New York. Last year a concert was held at which a Hebrew play written especially for the Club by the late Abraham Goldfaden, "David on the Battlefield," was enacted. The name of the Club has been entered three times in the Golden Book. It has contributed $400 to the various Zionist funds and has a Hebrew library of many volumes. The Club meets every Saturday evening at the Educational Alliance, its membership is now near fifty. Boys between 12 and 16 years, speaking Hebrew are invited to join.
ROSES' OF SHARON.
This circle has already begun the work of the year. On Saturday, August 22, at their opening meeting, a delightful programme was rendered by the members and quite a number of applications received. Next week will be a Zionistic meeting at which a series of papers on the history and institutions of Zionism will be read. The programme for the year includes the study of Jewish history. A Hebrew study group and a dramatic circle have also been formed. The Circle is composed of girls from 14 to 16 years and has two junior branches, the Julia Herzl Club and the Sunbeans of Zion.
PERCHE ZION OF PATERSON.
The boys of this circle have begun their work with vim. A club room has been procured and their attention is now being given to its decoration and beginning of a library. A new constitution has been adopted, officers elected and an Executive Committee, which will transact most of the business of the Circle. At the meetings more time will be spent on literary work, the members being determined to spend the year on a study of Jewish history and the Zionist movement. Two new circles are contemplated, a sister circle of girls and a younger circle of boys and girls.
LOVERS OF ZION OF ST. LOUIS.
This circle has lately taken an active turn. Oratorical essays are rendered and sketches of Jewish history are read at the meetings. A few public meetings are given at which an entertainment is rendered. An outing was given that proved enjoyable to all the members.
THE YIDDISH PRESS FUND.
FELLOW ZIONISTS:
At our Convention in Atlantic City the Yiddish Press Fund was increased by $1,100 within half an hour's time, so that the total subscriptions to the fund are now $3,895. It is incumbent upon Zionists to gather the $1,100 which is still short, within the next few months. It is absolutely necessary that the $5,000 should come in not later than the early part of October, in order that the paper may appear January, 1900, in accordance with the desire of the Convention.
One more little effort, comrades, a little more energetic work, and we shall have a good organ in Yiddish; a powerful factor in furthering Zionism in America; a forum, where we shall finally be able to speak to the many thousands of our Yiddish speaking brethren, and enlighten them about our ideal and our work.
We American Zionists have before us a large and fertile field. We shall reap a hundredfold from whatever we sow. But we cannot keep on tilling the ground in a primitive way. The larger the field, the more necessary are good implements, and a good implement, one of the best, is the Zionist Press. One more little effort, comrades, and we shall have our Yiddish organ.
We appeal to all conscientious and true Zionists in every city and town: Do not rest until this undertaking is crowned with success. Raise your voice for the Fund and the organ, and do not cease working until every Zion society and every Zionist in your city will have done their duty.
