IS THE I.O.B.B. BEHIND SIMON WOLF
To THE MACCABAEAN :
I am enclosing an announcement we have just issued which will give you an idea of the kind of propaganda we are trying to do here. This announcement, with certain other facts which I shall mention, should, I think, be of interest to the columns of THE MACCABAEAN. In the January issue it is reported that the Hon. Simon Wolf, in his evidence before the immigration committee, states that the I. O. B.B. which he represents is opposed to Zionism. I question his right to speak for the entire order, as, to my personal knowledge on the coast, there are many prominent members of the I.O.B.B. who are in sympathy with Zionism. The enclosed announcement shows three men who stand -high in the order in this district, (No. 4) one of whom (Rev. M. S. Levy) is an active member of the Agudath Zion. In addition to this particular meeting, we have four other lectures. arranged to be delivered by four different members of this society, all of whom are prominent and active Ben B'riths.
The first President of the Agudath Zion (Dr. H. Epstein) who served two terms, and myself, who am also serving my second term as President of this society, are Monitor and President, respectively in California Lodge No. 163, I.O.B.B. Our Financial Secretary is a member of the order, as well as quite a number of our other members. Dr. N. Mosessohn, editor Jewish Tribune, Portland, Ore., a past President and active B'nai Brith, is an ardent Zionist in that city. Past Grand President George N. Black, as well as other members of Los Angeles Lodge are members of the Young Zionists' Association of that city.
This only applies to my own personal knowledge in my immediate neighborhood. How much more this is so over the States I am not in a position to say, but on the face of this I fail to see by what right or authority Simon Wolf or any other mem-
ber of the B'nai Brith can speak for the order at large, and state officially that they are opposed to Zionism.

Memorial Resolutions
At a meeting of the Executive Committee Federation of American Zionists, held on February 6th, the secretary having reported the death of three devoted Zionists, Mrs. Hyman Starr of New York; Wolf Schur, of Chicago, and Benno Leon, of Cincinnati; it was unanimously
Resolved that, in the death of Mrs. Hyman Starr the Federation has lost a faithful adherent of Zionism and friend of our organization during many years; and it was further
Resolved that the death of Wolf Schur has deprived the Jewish people of one of the banner-bearers of its national culture, and the Zionist organization of a pioneer in its ranks; and it was further
Resolved that the untimely death of Benno Leon, a student of the Hebrew Union College, has been a grievous loss to our movement in removing from its midst one whose best thoughts and endeavors were devoted to the Cause of Zionism, of which he was an able and fearless champion and who gave promise of greater usefulness in the future; and it was further
Resolved that in recognition of the facts above recited, a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of the Executive Committee of the Federation and published in our official organ, THE MACCABAEAN.
The epidemic of meningitis which has again made its appearance this winter in Jerusalem is still continuing. Fortunately, the victims are isolated in the Schaare Zedek Hospital, where, until now, there have been about ninety cases. The mortality is this time much less than last winter, and the administration of serum has shown good results.
