Hadassah’s Anniversary

We congratulate the organization upon the good use it has made of the freedom of this issue for the elucidation of its program and the propaganda of its ideas.

This number of The Maccabaean is not intended, we take it, as a demonstration of the literary ability of the women in Zionism. Such a demonstration would be superfluous. The women in Zionism have been contributors to The Maccabaean and to the discussion of Zionist thought from the genesis of the modern Zionist organization, which gave equal rights to all Jewish women at the First Zionist Congress.

The women of Hadassah utilize the opportunity given to them by The Maccabaean to tell what they are doing for the strengthening of Zionist influence in Palestine and for the broadening and intensification of Zionist influence in this country.

There is women’s work to be done in Zionism, which the men cannot do. Hadassah has added color and quality to the Zionist movement. The rough, uneven work dealing with miscellan- cous elements by various methods—the work that must be done on the Jewish street—of necessity had to be done by the men. Hadassah has acted more quietly, more systematically, with more attention to detail, preferring a slow growth rather than a mass progress. It has aimed to convert its members not only to Zionism, but to a knowledge of what Zionism means. The Zionist organization appreciates what it has done, and feels the influence of its activities in the larger fields of Zionist endeavors.

Thanks are due to the Committee of Editors of Hadassah for their painstaking work in making this issue a credit not only to the organization they represent, but also the Zionist organization at large.
