THE twenty-ninth day of August, 1897, marked a stepping-stone in the history of our people and inaugurated a new era in Israel, for that day witnessed the foundation of the first international parliamentary assembly of Jews, which assembly laid the foundation for the future policy of the Jewish people and announced to the world the will to live of the Jews as a people in the land of their ancestors.
