Nordau Zionist SocietyFifteen Years Old

In October, 1902, a group of young men headed by Mr. Morris Margulies, organized the Nordau Zionist Society. October, 1917, finds the Nordau Zionist Society an organization of seventy-five men and women, and one of the most active and most influential Zionist organizations in New York. For any organization to exist fifteen years in succession and with reasonable assurance of continuing to exist and to function as long as it will be necessary for Zionist societies to exist, is quite an accomplishment. True enough, the Nordau Zionist Society experienced all the trials and tribulations of the ordinarv society composed of the young element. The path ofthe society was not alwavs strewn with roses.

and very often followed a zigzag course. But the organization survived all these pangs of development, and is now, as it has been for some time, on a sure and solid footing.

A brief retrospect into the life and activities of the N. Z. S. shows that this society was the first to draw its membership from the public schools. Zionism as well as Jewish matters in general, were then foreign to the Jewish boy attending high school. The N. Z. S. was the first organization of its kind to foster the Jewish spirit among those boys. As a means of doing that, the N. Z. S. conducted a series of lectures in the Educational Alliance where the youth of the East Side were instructed by some of the most prominent Jews in the city.

actual running of the Zionist organization in New York. Its members participate in almost all branches of Jewish work. In the recent elections to the American Jewish Congress, the N. Z. S. was most conspicuous in the campaign. It succeeded in electing as a delegate to the Congress, its president, Mr. Morris Margulies, who drew the second highest number of votes in his district. Mr. Margulies enjoys the distinction of being the youngest delegate to the Congress.

Congress. The N. Z. S. is growing stronger as it is growing older. Beginning its sixteenth year of existence, the N. Z. S. stands ready and able to cope with the increased burdens and the manifold duties which the Zionist organization by reason of the marvelous growth of the Zionist sentiment, has assumed.
