such Americans as Julian W. Mack, Louis Marshall and other men of national prominence. With only one dissenting vote this Congress adopted the Palestine program of the Zionist Organization. There occurred on this occasion an indescribable outburst of enthusiasm. This fact, however, does not prevent Congressman Kahn from saying: "I regret that the President has seen fit to come out openly in favor of the Jewish state proposed by some of the English statesmen. I believe that if he had consulted the views of those members of the Jewish faith who have lived in the United States for many years, he would have found that an overwhelming majority of them are opposed to Zionism." Such an irresponsible statement has the ring of Prussianism; at least of anything but Americanism.

An English Zionist once said: "Our country does not require us to be worse Jews in order to become better Englishmen." There is no doubt that America also does not require her Jews to be worse Jews in order to become better Americans.

When Representative Kahn, who comes from beautiful California whose every flower and twig seems to whisper that so beautiful an idea as Zionism should be supported, is unable to understand that idea, then this is additional evidence that there is something wrong with his equilibrium. When he is constantly subjected to the nightmare that some one would question his patriotism, then he must suffer from the disease which psychologists call "functional disorder" and he deserves our hearty sympathy
